Job Summary
The City of Fallon, Nevada seeks a Water/Wastewater Treatment Operator for salary grade 8 with a range of $30.39 to $37.02 per hour, depending on experience. The operator will manage the city’s water and wastewater utilities, operating a 9.7 MGD arsenic removal facility, well field, booster stations, and a 2.2 MGD sequential batch reactor.

Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain daily operations of the water and wastewater treatment facilities, including routine chemical dosage, pump selection, and balancing flows.
- Operate SCADA and PC‑based systems to calculate flows, chemical dosages, and monitor water quality.
- Maintain treatment equipment, troubleshoot instrumentation, mechanical equipment, and microprocessor‑based controllers; generate and record work orders.
- Safely handle hazardous chemicals and use proper PPE, participating in required safety training.
- Perform routine chemical laboratory analyses, maintain quality control, and report accurate results.
- Install, calibrate, start up and train personnel on new processes and equipment.
- Attend professional meetings, stay abreast of industry trends and innovations.
- Respond to and resolve consumer inquiries and complaints.
- Operate 24/7 facilities with normal hours 6 a.m.–3 p.m., with flexibility according to demand.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Ability
- Knowledge of equipment, tools, occupational hazards, safety practices, cleaning methods and chemical mixing.
- Basic chemistry and ability to use software such as Word, Excel, SCADA.
- Ability to read technical manuals, troubleshoot instruments, communicate effectively, use hand and power tools, and practice workplace safety.
- Ability to work in a team and pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
Experience and Training
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year on‑the‑job experience as a water or wastewater treatment operator.
- Mechanical or trade/tech education, organizational skills, and team‑player ability.
- Current Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) Water Treatment Operator Grade T‑2 (preferably T‑4) or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Current NDEP Wastewater Operator Grade 1 (preferably Grade 3) or ability to obtain within 6 months.
Physical and Perceptual Capabilities
- Bend, stoop, kneel and climb; lift or carry objects greater than 50 lb.
- Perform repetitive hand and foot motions.
- Repeatedly stand up and sit down.
Working Conditions
- Indoor and outdoor environments; transition between them.
- Occasional heavy lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting.
- Noise and equipment distractions; work sometimes without supervision.
