Job summary

The City of Westbrook is seeking a Systems Operator II in the Public Services Department, Wastewater Division. This entry-level role supports operation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection systems and pumping stations, with emphasis on safety and customer service.

Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, operating equipment, and joining the on-call rotation. A range of licenses and certifications may be pursued after hire; AFSCME contract and comprehensive benefits apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid State of Maine Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to obtain Class II NEWEA license within one year.
• Ability to obtain Maine Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements within six months.
• Ability to obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification within required timeframe.
• Experience in wastewater operations, public works, utilities, construction, or related field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Assist in operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection systems and pumping stations.
• Perform preventative maintenance for reliable wastewater infrastructure operation.
• Learn to safely operate equipment including vacuum trucks, sewer cleaning equipment, pumps, and heavy trucks.
• Assist with cleaning, inspection, repair, and replacement of wastewater components.
• Participate in snow plowing and snow removal operations.
• Join division emergencies standby/on-call rotation and weekend checks.
• Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
