Job summary

Town of Manchester is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to perform skilled operations, maintenance and repair of the wastewater treatment process and instrumentation. The role includes inspecting stations, monitoring pumps, and ensuring effluent standards are met.

The position requires a high school diploma, a CDL with air brake endorsement (or ability to obtain within 180 days), and progression toward state operator certification within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• CT Class II Operator in Training Certification within 18 months of employment.
• Two years of wastewater treatment experience preferred.
• Must hold or obtain within 180 days of employment a valid Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement.
• Within 2½ years, obtain a Class II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification.

Responsibilities

• Operate pumps and equipment to move wastewater through treatment process.
• Plan and organize all aspects of assigned tasks.
• Conduct daily inspections of plant equipment and facilities.
• Serve as Operator in Responsible Charge as assigned or scheduled.
• Perform minor plumbing, electrical and mechanical repairs as needed.
• Coordinate activities of other operators in training.
• Remove/install major equipment and replace/maintain chemical feed equipment.
• Read meters, collect samples and perform process control testing.
