Job summary

City of Elkins is seeking a Wastewater Plant Operator-In-Training (OIT) to assist under supervision in daily plant operation and maintenance at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Elkins, WV. Responsibilities include monitoring, adjusting, recording plant data, and responding to emergencies.

Weekend/holiday work and 24-hour on-call service are required. Requires a high school diploma or GED with some wastewater experience; valid driver's license and Class I Wastewater Certification within one year

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED and some wastewater experience.
• Desirable coursework in industrial tech, mechanical or civil fields.
• Valid driver's license and Class I Wastewater Certification within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots technical and mechanical problems and initiates corrective action.
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and calibrates meters.
• Monitors and records readings from meters, gauges and instruments.
• Starts up, stops, and adjusts motors, pumps and other equipment to meet conditions.
• Collects and prepares water/sewer samples for lab analysis.
• Operates sludge dewatering and heavy equipment as required.
• Maintains accurate operations records and on-call for 24/7 emergencies.
