Job summary

County of Hawai‘i in Hawai‘i Island seeks a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I to independently operate and maintain licensed plants, monitor pumping stations, collect samples, and keep accurate records.

The role requires a Hawai‘i Grade I wastewater operator certificate, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work shifts, including standby, weekends or holidays. County offers extensive benefits and training opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience and/or training sufficient to perform journey level Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I duties.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain wastewater treatment and pumping plant equipment to meet regulations.
• Read meters and gauges; interpret data and adjust processes.
• Maintain logs and prepare operational reports.
• Inspect equipment and perform minor repairs; participate in overhauls and installations.
• Collect samples and perform chemical/physical analyses of wastewater and sludge.
• Attend safety and training sessions and comply with safety/environmental policies.
