County of Hawai'i in Hilo seeks a Wastewater Plant Working Supervisor IV to oversee operation and maintenance of the district's Class III/IV wastewater facilities and pumping stations. You will supervise staff, coordinate schedules, manage data and laboratory analyses, and ensure safety compliance.

The role requires a Hawaii Operator IV certificate, a valid Class 3 driver’s license, and a strong track record in plant operations and supervision.

Qualifications

• Combination of education and experience to competently perform journey level duties of a Wastewater Plant Working Supervisor IV.
• Possession of a valid Hawai'i Mandatory Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator IV Certificate at time of filing.
• Possession of a valid State of Hawai'i driver's license (Class 3) at time of filing.
• A current traffic abstract; no DUI convictions; license not revoked or suspended for three years and no moving violations for one year.

Responsibilities

• Supervise operation and maintenance of pumps and auxiliary equipment to control flow of wastewater, air, and sludge.
• Read, record, and interpret data from meters, gauges, and other devices to maintain or improve plant operations.
• Inspect plant and mechanical equipment; oversee lubrication, repairs, and maintenance; paint equipment and structures.
• Operate chemical feed systems; collect samples; perform laboratory analyses; maintain records and reports.
• Prepare work schedules and assignments for maintenance and operation of the plant and pumping stations.
• Evaluate employee performance; handle leaves; prepare timesheets and operational reports on labor, materials and equipment.
• Train employees; explain policies and procedures; advise operators on treatment procedures and maintenance.
• Investigate and resolve complaints; submit tool/equipment/materials requests; assist budget preparation.
• Enforce safety laws and safeguard facilities; operate vehicles for transport; respond to emergencies.
• Attend training seminars to meet continuing education requirements.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
