Job summary

County of Hawai'i is seeking an entry-level Wastewater Operator to assist in operating, maintaining, and repairing wastewater treatment plants. Positions are available in Hilo and Kailua-Kona, with permanent full-time appointments and on-the-job training to prepare for operator certification.

The role requires basic high school education and some mechanical or electrical experience; a Hawai‘i driver’s license and good record are required. Shift, weekend, and standby duties may apply.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent required.
• Some mechanical or electrical work experience preferred.
• Must possess a valid Hawai‘i driver’s license (Class 3) at time of filing.

Responsibilities

• Assist in operating and maintaining wastewater treatment plant processes and equipment.
• Regulate flow, processing, and treatment of wastewater, air, and sludge.
• Open/close valves, monitor gauges, and record readings.
• Collect samples and assist in analyses of wastewater and sludge.
• Make process adjustments as directed.
• Operate and maintain sludge digestion and related equipment.
• Keep operational records and station logs.
