Job summary

The City of Grand Island is seeking a versatile maintenance worker to support wastewater collection system operations. This role includes cleaning, repairs, equipment operation, and records management, with safety as a core requirement.

No prior experience is required for entry; a high school diploma or GED is preferred, and a Class A CDL must be obtained within 3 months. Training on the wastewater system is provided to qualify for the position.

Qualifications

• No experience required; prior industrial maintenance preferred.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must possess a valid Class A CDL within 3 months of hire.
• Completion of Sacramento Study Course – Operation and Maintenance of Wastewater Collection System within twelve months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in cleaning and repair of the wastewater collection system in the City.
• Maintain inventory of tools and equipment necessary to perform maintenance and repair activities; request parts as needed.
• Maintain various records of maintenance and repair services.
• Remove snow and ice from City facilities when necessary.
• Investigate public complaints and determine source of problem.
• Locate sewer mains for the City and other utility companies.
• Operate construction and maintenance equipment such as trucks and loaders for projects.
• Utilize a variety of hand and power tools; assist in routine maintenance.
• Adhere to safety precautions in all work performed.
• Candidates subject to a background check.
