Job summary

The City of Columbia is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to inspect, maintain and repair equipment at the wastewater treatment plant and lift stations. The role involves heavy physical work, operating and servicing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, and maintaining accurate records.

You will perform preventive maintenance, assist with projects, respond to inquiries from the public, and be on-call 24/7 for emergencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• One year of relevant prior experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.
• Possess or obtain SC Class “B” CDL with tanker endorsement within nine months.
• Possess or obtain D Level certifications for WWTP and WWC within 36 months.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain and repair equipment and systems at the wastewater plant and lift stations.
• Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic plant equipment.
• Inspect, troubleshoot and repair equipment and assist with projects.
• Maintain accurate work records and respond to inquiries from customers and the public.
• Attend meetings and training to enhance job knowledge; on-call 24 hours for emergencies.
