Job summary

City of St. Joseph, MO is seeking an Assistant Superintendent of Water Protection to assist in managing the wastewater treatment plant, coordinate with federal, state and local regulators, and support supervision and clerical staff.

You will help prepare and monitor the division budget, oversee safety, schedules and projects, and ensure compliance with final effluent testing, reporting and permit requirements, while developing subordinates and guiding operations.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of wastewater treatment process.
• Missouri Class “A” wastewater certification or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
• Ability to interpret and abide by federal, state and local laws.
• Ability to supervise and manage employees in a high-volume WWTP.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Public relations knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and report information for federal/state permitting requirements.
• Oversee purchasing procedures for the department.
• Assist in annual budget preparation and monitoring expenditures.
• Conduct plant inspections and monitor controls.
• Plan future operation and maintenance projects for the facility.
• Supervise staff and coordinate personnel matters.
• Directly supervise management personnel and evaluate performances.
• Coordinate major projects to ensure safety, timeliness and budget compliance.
• Attend regulatory conferences at the state level.
• Assist Maintenance Manager with maintenance schedules and planning.
