Job summary

OWASA in Carrboro, NC is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to lead the Wastewater Management Laboratory and drive excellence across testing and compliance.

The role supervises a small team, oversees analytical testing, ensures regulatory adherence, and partners with customers and vendors to maintain quality and safety.

Strong leadership, communication, and hands-on laboratory experience in inorganic and bacteriological parameters are essential, with a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Qualifications

• Minimum four years in wastewater laboratory work with supervisory experience.
• Experience analyzing inorganic and bacteriological wastewater parameters using certified methods.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.
• Service-oriented, professional, and committed to diversity and inclusion.
• Valid North Carolina driver's license or ability to obtain one.
• Ability to meet safety-sensitive position requirements and lift up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Ensure laboratory procedures comply with laws, policies, and regulations.
• Perform and supervise analytical testing; manage supplies and equipment purchases.
• Supervise and develop a staff of two employees and one summer intern.
• Communicate with customers, the public, and vendors.
• Create and update SOPs, QA/QC manuals, safety plans, and reports.
