Job summary

OWASA in Carrboro, NC is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to lead our wastewater management laboratory programs and staff. The role emphasizes compliance, testing oversight, and continuous improvement in a public utility setting.

The ideal candidate has four+ years in wastewater labs, with at least one year in supervision, plus a relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Strong leadership and customer communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Four years of wastewater laboratory experience with at least one year in a supervisory role.
• Experience analyzing inorganic and bacteriological wastewater parameters using certified methods.

Responsibilities

• Ensure laboratory procedures and programs comply with laws, policies, and regulations.
• Perform and oversee analytical testing; maintain inventory and determine equipment needs.
• Supervise, develop, and coach two staff and one summer intern; ensure performance.
• Communicate with customers, the public, and vendors.
• Create/update SOPs, QC/QA manuals, Chemical Hygiene Plans, Safety Data Sheets, Chain of Custody, Discharge Monitoring Reports, and monthly reports.
