Job summary

The City of Houston is seeking a first responder for Houston Water/Wastewater Operations. Based at 100 Japhet St, Houston, TX 77020, the role handles investigation, documentation, and response to service requests and sewer-related issues.

Responsibilities include emergency readiness, site inspections, and coordination with the public and professionals. Some shifts may require overnight dormitory stay during emergencies; driving to sites is required.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED and up to 18 months of specialized education or training.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with City driving policy.
• Experience in customer service or an inspection-related field may be required.
• Journey-level experience may be required after apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and respond to service requests from citizens, business owners and manhole monitoring alerts.
• Document and respond to sanitary sewer overflows; open manholes, take photos, and update asset management systems.
• Meet with the public, technical professionals and businesses to address inquiries/concerns.
• May respond to emergencies and work longer shifts, including sleeping in the facility during an emergency.
