Job summary

The City of Houston seeks an experienced inspector to plan, supervise and review cleaning and televising work for the sanitary sewer collection system, respond to contractor inquiries, and ensure compliance with contract documents.

This Tier III Emergency Management role requires an Associate's degree (or HS diploma with 18+ months in a related program) and four years of journey-level experience, plus a valid Texas driver’s license.

POSITION OVERVIEW

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Schedules, prepares and reviews work assignments related to cleaning and televising, preventative maintenance, and collection system maintenance assigned to contractors for the sanitary sewer collection system. Investigates and responds to inquiries concerning, sanitary sewer issues, code interpretations and technical problems from contractors, technical professionals and the public. Prepares and reviews reports, forms, and records. Assist general public with preparing various forms. Provides code interpretation to enhance technical quality. Conducts various inspections related to cleaning and television of the collection system to ensure conformance to project specifications and contract documents.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, up to forty (40) pounds and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.

This is a department of public works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires an Associate's degree in a field closely related to the area of inspection to be performed; or a high school diploma/GED and certification/licensing in a technical specialty program of over 18 months in the area of inspection to be performed.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Four years of journey level or skilled experience in the area of inspection to be performed are required. In the areas for Electrical, Elevator Trades, Plumbing, Structural, and A/C and Boiler, experience must be journey level experience received after completion of apprenticeship program.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving (AP 2-2)

PREFERENCES

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

SALARY INFORMATION

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

Pay Grade 22

All new and rehires must pass a pre-employment drug test and are subject to a physical examination and verification of information provided.
