Job summary

CITY OF ALABASTER is seeking a Wastewater Collections Apprentice to support pump stations and sewer mains operations, ensuring continuous flow to the treatment plant. You will assist with preventive maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs while logging results and maintaining records.

Requires a High School Diploma and experience with equipment operation; valid Alabama driver’s license; and within one year, certification as Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I or IC.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and experience in equipment operation required; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must possess a valid State driver’s license.
• Must obtain Alabama Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I or IC certification within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance/repairs on pump stations, sewer mains, and manholes.
• Perform drain and sewer camera inspections; log results and maintain accurate records.
• Respond to citizen requests involving sewer problems.
• Operate equipment and utilize a variety of hand and power tools; identify maintenance needs.
• Assist with monitoring of systems through gauges, graphs, meters and control panels.
• Obtain estimates on materials and maintenance needs; make purchases as required.
• Assist with maintaining City facilities including minor building/fencing repairs and mowing.

WASETWATER COLLECTIONS APPRENTICE

Salary Range: $17.31- $23.96 depending on experience The purpose of this position is to assist with the operation and maintenance of pump stations and sewer mains to ensure uninterrupted flow of sanitary sewer influent to the Wastewater Treatment Plant for processing.

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance/repairs on pump station, sewer mains, and manholes.
• Perform drain and sewer camera inspections; routinely inspect pump stations throughout the City; log results and maintain accurate records.
• Responds to citizen requests involving sewer problems.
• Operates equipment and utilizes a variety of hand and power tools; performs routine maintenance and repairs on equipment; identifies equipment maintenance needs.
• Assist with regular monitoring of systems through reading gauges, graphs, meters and control panels.
• Obtain estimates on materials and maintenance needs; make purchases as required.
• Assist with maintaining City facilities including minor building/fencing repairs and mowing as required.
