Job summary

The City of Alabaster is seeking a Wastewater Collections Apprentice to support the operation and maintenance of pump stations and sewer mains, ensuring uninterrupted flow to the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Responsibilities include preventive and corrective maintenance, camera inspections, responding to citizen sewer issues, reading gauges and meters, and assisting with facility upkeep.

• Valid Alabama driver’s license required.
• Plant operator certification within one year of employment (Grade I or IC).

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on pump stations, sewer mains, and manholes.
• Perform drain and sewer camera inspections and log results.
• Respond to citizen sewer-related requests and issues.
• Operate equipment and use hand/power tools; perform routine maintenance.
• Monitor systems by reading gauges, graphs, meters and control panels.
• Obtain material estimates and assist with purchases as needed.
• Assist with maintaining City facilities and mowing as required.

WASETWATER COLLECTIONS APPRENTICE

Salary Range: $17.31- $23.96 depending on experience

The purpose of this position is to assist with the operation and maintenance of pump stations and sewer mains to ensure uninterrupted flow of sanitary sewer influent to the Wastewater Treatment Plant for processing.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance/repairs on pump station, sewer mains, and manholes.
• Perform drain and sewer camera inspections; routinely inspect pump stations throughout the City; log results and maintain accurate records.
• Responds to citizen requests involving sewer problems.
• Operates equipment and utilizes a variety of hand and power tools; performs routine maintenance and repairs on equipment; identifies equipment maintenance needs.
• Assist with regular monitoring of systems through reading gauges, graphs, meters and control panels.
• Obtain estimates on materials and maintenance needs; make purchases as required.
• Assist with maintaining City facilities including minor building/fencing repairs and mowing as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma and experience in equipment operation required; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid State driver’s license. V alid Alabama Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I or Grade IC certification within one year of employment .
