Job summary

The City of Alabaster is seeking a skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic to join our Environmental Services team. You will perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on wastewater treatment equipment, pumps, electrical systems, and related machinery to help keep operations safe and reliable.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting PLCs and instrumentation, calibrating meters, welding and fabrication, operating heavy machinery, and coordinating repairs as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of wastewater operations or related field.
• Valid Alabama CDL Class B or higher.
• Valid Alabama Grade II Wastewater Operator Certification.
• Maintain licenses and certifications during employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on wastewater treatment equipment and machinery.
• Diagnose, maintain, and repair pumps, engines, motors, generators, valves, tanks, chlorinators, controls, and other components.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems; repair electric motors; rewire panels; replace parts.
• Install and upgrade mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Calibrate, troubleshoot, and program PLCs, flow meters, and related instrumentation.
• Test machinery and equipment for proper operation.
• Identify problems and coordinate outside repairs when needed.
• Perform welding and fabrication work for repairs and maintenance.
• Cut and shape metal with plasma cutters, torches, and grinders.
• Operate heavy machinery and tools including cranes, forklifts, generators, pumps, and diagnostic instruments.
• Use maintenance tools across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment and perform routine maintenance.
• Fuel vehicles and equipment as needed.
• Attend safety meetings and follow safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
