Job summary

Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County's Waste Services department seeks a Special Projects Manager to lead high-priority initiatives that improve efficiency, compliance, and environmental performance within the waste management system.

The role manages cross-department projects from concept to closeout, develops project frameworks, oversees budgets and staffing, and collaborates with regulators, vendors, and service partners to deliver measurable, sustainable outcomes aligned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college and five years of verifiable project management experience in the waste management industry.
• Additional verifiable project management experience in the waste management industry may be considered in lieu of education (1:1 ratio).
• Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Reviews project proposals and plans to define timelines, funding limits, methods, and resource allocation.
• Oversees and approves project design from concept through construction closeout.
• Establishes, manages, and monitors project schedules to ensure adherence to planned milestones.
• Reviews and certifies contractor and consultant progress payments for accuracy and compliance.
• Develops project staffing plans and establishes work plans and schedules for all project phases.
• Assigns personnel, defines responsibilities, and establishes authority levels for project team members.
• Directs and coordinates project activities through subordinate staff and manages budgets to control expenditure.
• Reviews project status reports and adjust schedules or resources as necessary.
• Prepare project status reports and communicate updates to management and stakeholders.
• Collaborates with project personnel, vendors, and contractors to provide technical guidance and support problem resolution.
• Coordinates project activities with governmental or regulatory agencies as required.
• Conducts or overseas operational audits, including regulatory compliance, environmental performance, operational processes, vendor/contractor performance, financial controls, QA/QC, risk mitigation, and project delivery audits.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
