Job summary

The City and County of Denver seeks a Waste Services Operator I to join the Solid Waste division. You will operate trash collection trucks, load and unload waste, and help keep Denver's streets clean on a four‑day, 10‑hour schedule with potential overtime.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, two years of general labor experience with six months driving light to medium equipment, and a valid CDL B with endorsements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years general labor experience including six months driving light to medium equipment.
• CDL-B license with required endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Safely operates a solid waste collection truck to collect waste, recycle, or compost along a designated route.
• Loads/unloads waste and/or recyclables at landfills, recycling centers, or similar facilities.
• Reads and interprets route maps to plan collection routes efficiently.
• Uses route management technology to document service completion and operational issues.
• Identifies unsatisfactory waste containers and tags containers as required.
• Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provides information within area of assignment.
• Completes daily pre/post trip inspections as defined by federal guidelines.
• Assists in preventative maintenance of equipment by washing and servicing vehicles.
• Prepares routine operating reports such as material collected, miles driven, and fuel used.
• Reports uncollected refuse and completion of collection.
