Job summary

Salt Lake City Corporation seeks a Waste & Recycling Equipment Operator II to operate refuse collection trucks and loaders, with varying schedules to meet city needs.

You will perform routine maintenance, complete logs, assist Yard Service residents, and ensure safety procedures while coordinating with senior operators. A CDL Class B and related experience are required; lifting up to 75 pounds is expected.

Qualifications

• Two years' related work experience as an equipment operator or the successful completion of the division’s Waste & Recycling Equipment Operator training program plus 6 months of experience.
• Extensive knowledge of preventative maintenance for the equipment operated and ability to perform minor repairs.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B and may require additional endorsements.
• Ability to operate multiple heavy equipment types (ASL/REL, wheel loader) and ability to obtain flagger certification if needed.
• Capable of lifting up to 75 pounds and meeting visual demands for safety and operation.

Responsibilities

• Operates an automated refuse and/or rear load collection truck.
• Receives daily route and completes assigned area; routes designated by need.
• Assist residents with Yard Service program and return containers to yards.
• Report damaged or missing containers and perform routine maintenance.
• Complete forms and logs: equipment logs, load reports, trip timesheets.
• Cleans trucks and communicates progress or issues to supervisors.
• Troubleshoots minor repairs and references major repairs to management.
• Operate a wheel loader/front-end loader to load debris as needed.
• May assist other divisions with assignments and safety checks.
