Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a qualified supervisor to lead a waste operations team in Illinois. The role involves recruiting, training, and evaluating personnel to meet service commitments while ensuring compliance with wage laws and safety guidelines.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, 3+ years in the waste industry, and supervisory experience. SWANA certification and equipment operation skills are highly desirable, with a strong focus on safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3+ years experience in the waste industry desired (landfill or transfer operations preferred).
• 1 year supervisory experience required.
• SWANA certified transfer station operator within 60 days of hire (Transfer Stations).
• For Landfills, 1 year operating horizontal baler and bobcat/forklift; training for hazardous materials clearance.

Responsibilities

• Screen, hire, train and develop personnel to meet service commitments.
• Adhere to wage and hour laws and compensate staff accordingly.
• Ensure safe working conditions at each job site.
• Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program to reduce downtime and costs.
• Schedule safety meetings and document attendance, ensure safety guideline compliance.
• Maintain records and manage inventory of supplies.
• Operate equipment as necessary and follow all company policies.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
