Clean Harbors in Devens, MA is seeking a Waste Material Handler (Insite Chemist) to handle, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste in accordance with Federal/State/Local regulations and our company policies and procedures. This position will work both indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, customer sites, and is responsible for assisting with lab packs within customer facilities, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, and lab moves. This is a customer-facing position, working at customer sites daily. The Environmental Field Chemist role is NOT laboratory-based.

Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring health and safety compliance by following all safe work practices, policies, and procedures
- Preparing packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications
- Inspecting staging, accumulating, and storage areas for proper housekeeping and compliance
- Inspecting storage areas and drums for leaks, spills, and labeling compliance
- Collecting, segregating, and properly packaging waste chemicals for disposal
- Executing jobs at customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies
- Final preparation and approval of projects before shipment, in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies
- Conducting projects according to site-specific regulations and safety plans
- Understanding customer-specific disposal restrictions and packaging requirements
- Sampling and profiling new waste streams or waste needing analytical testing
- Ensuring drum count accuracy and shippability in compliance with company policies
- Following all local, state, and federal regulations
- Safely operating vehicles per U.S. DOT and local requirements
- Observing all operational and environmental safety guidelines
- Performing other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications:
- Valid Driver's license
- Strong customer service skills
- By position, obtain a CDL Class B with hazmat and tanker endorsements within 6 months
- Ability to perform physical functions required by the job
- Successful completion of background checks, drug tests, and physical exams as applicable
- Compliance with OSHA's facial hair standards for respirator use
Preferred qualifications:
- College degree in Chemistry or Natural Science
- Previous experience in Environmental Services (e.g., remediation, abatement, spill response)
