Job summary

The University of Utah is seeking a Warehouse Materials Handler to receive, store, and distribute materials for maintenance, construction, and renovation. You will help ensure accurate inventory, timely deliveries, and safe warehouse operations on campus in Salt Lake City.

This full-time, on-site role requires basic inventory knowledge, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and comfort working in varying indoor/outdoor conditions. Interviews are held in person at the campus.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience.
  • Warehouse Materials Handler I requires little to no related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management practices.
  • Ability to use warehouse management or inventory tracking systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment safely.
  • Comfortable working in indoor/outdoor environments, including varying temperatures.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials and supplies for accuracy and quality.
  • Store items in designated warehouse locations using proper organization and safety procedures.
  • Pick, pack, and issue materials to maintenance staff and contractors based on work orders or requests.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using inventory management systems or manual logs.
  • Perform regular cycle counts and assist with full physical inventory audits.
  • Operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks (as certified).
  • Load and unload delivery vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the warehouse and storage areas.
  • Monitor stock levels and notify supervisors of shortages or reorder needs.
  • Assist in coordinating deliveries to job sites or housing facilities.
  • Follow all safety procedures, policies, and regulations related to material handling and storage.
  • Support emergency or urgent material needs for housing operations.

Most work will be done between the hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday. However, during busy seasons such as move-in, move-out, and summer conferences, weekend and overtime hours may be necessary. This position may also be in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours departmental needs.

Job Summary

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT : 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Warehouse Materials Handler, I: Requires little to no related experience.
