The Walt Disney Company’s WABC station in New York is seeking a seasoned General Assignment Reporter for an as-needed, part-time role. You will report across broadcast, digital, and social platforms, pitching and producing original stories for multiple dayparts.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in a top market, strong reporting, writing, and live presentation skills, and the ability to develop sources under deadline. The pay rate is $405 per day, with select benefits included.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience reporting in a top 20 market.
• Demonstrated editorial judgment and journalistic integrity.
• Experience as a television news reporter, multimedia journalist, or in a comparable environment.
• Exceptional reporting, writing, interviewing, storytelling, and live presentation skills.
• Proven ability to develop sources and generate original story ideas.
• Strong understanding of digital, social, and streaming platforms.
• Ability to meet deadlines in breaking news situations.

Job Posting Title: WABC General Assignment Reporter - As Needed

WABC is looking for an experienced general assignment reporter on an as-needed basis who can authentically engage and connect with our audience. The ideal candidate must be a dynamic and compelling journalist, communicator, and storyteller with a passion for uncovering and reporting the facts, and with integrity above all else. This team member will work collaboratively with producers, assignment editors, and newsroom leaders. The applicant must demonstrate a full understanding of the powerful voice and responsibility that broadcasters have to and with the communities we serve. This team member will report for all platforms and dayparts, including early mornings, nights, and weekends.

This is an as-needed position. The position is covered under the SAG-AFTRA- WABC-TV Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The schedule for this position will be weekdays, 3 a.m. - 11 a.m., barring breaking news.

An As-Needed employee is hired to work on a daily basis with no requirement for a regular schedule.

Responsibilities & Duties of the Roles

• Develop, pitch, research, and report original and enterprise stories that distinguish our coverage and serve our audience.
• Report live from the field during breaking news, major events, severe weather, and other developing stories.
• Build and maintain strong sources throughout the community to generate exclusive reporting and identify emerging stories.
• Write and produce compelling content across broadcast, digital, social, and streaming platforms.
• Collaborate with producers, photographers, assignment editors, digital teams, and newsroom leadership to deliver strong coverage.
• Represent the station professionally in the community and remain flexible to meet the demands of a fast-paced, 24/7 news environment.

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience reporting in a top 20 market
• Demonstrate sound editorial judgment and ensure reporting meets the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, context, and journalistic integrity.
• Demonstrated experience as a television news reporter, multimedia journalist, or journalist in a comparable news environment.
• Exceptional reporting, writing, interviewing, storytelling, and live presentation skills.
• Proven ability to develop sources and generate original story ideas.
• Strong understanding of digital, social, and streaming platforms.
• Ability to perform effectively under a deadline and adapt quickly during breaking news.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated success in developing enterprise stories, cultivating sources, and delivering exclusive reporting.
• Experience creating compelling content across broadcast, digital, streaming, and social platforms.
• Strong knowledge of the local market, communities, and issues.

Required Education

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

The pay rate for this role in New York is $405 per day.
