Job summary

Cloudflare, Inc. is seeking a Vulnerability Defense Software Engineer to join Cloudforce One, Cloudflare’s threat operations and research team.

Hybrid- located in the Austin, TX area, you will translate security requirements into scalable applications and collaborate with security practitioners to automate workflows. You will work primarily with Go and TypeScript, plus Rust, Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes, Terraform, and PostgreSQL to build high-performance tools.

Qualifications

• Proficient in cybersecurity concepts including threat modeling, attack techniques, trust boundaries and defensive controls.
• Experience with incident response workflows, network containment, and remediation.
• Hands-on vulnerability research or exploit development and translating findings into mitigations.
• Experience with AI-assisted development and creating agentic AI workflows.
• 5+ years building large-scale software applications, preferably distributed systems.
• Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs and/or gRPC services.
• Knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
• Ability to work in ambiguous problem spaces and deliver solutions.
• Experience writing production-grade Go and/or TypeScript code.
• Strong debugging and optimization skills; commitment to well-tested, modular code.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, run, and scale distributed tools that translate security tradecraft into scalable systems.
• Collaborate with security practitioners to understand workflows and automate bottlenecks.
• Improve system design for stability, performance, and maintainability of internal and customer-facing services.
• Analyze complex technical concepts and communicate prioritization across teams.
• Mentor teammates to promote best practices and well-tested code.
