Job summary

Wharton-Smith, Inc. seeks a Vice President of Field Operations to lead our water/wastewater field teams in Florida.

You will provide executive oversight, mentor senior field leaders, and partner with executives on staffing, safety, and project performance from preconstruction to closeout. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in construction management or civil engineering.
• Extensive construction management experience on multimillion-dollar projects.
• Deep Water/Wastewater field experience and self-performance knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Oversee field operations across Water/Wastewater units to ensure safe, high-quality execution.
• Support Superintendents in resolving field issues and meeting project requirements.
• Conduct site visits and milestone reviews to assess performance and provide guidance.
• Forecast labor, equipment, and scheduling needs with executives.
• Maximize manpower, tools, and equipment across active projects.
• Monitor project accounting, cost projections, PCA, and labor metrics.
• Review field cost and productivity data to identify risks and improvements.
• Support preconstruction through jobsite visits, constructability input, and estimate reviews.
• Enforce safety policies and regulatory compliance across all sites.
• Promote safety culture, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Mentor field leadership teams; develop workforce for advancement.
• Maintain trained craft workforce; succession planning.
• Maintain client relationships; participate in meetings with stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Finance to monitor financial performance and margins.
• Support post-project reviews and lessons learned.
• Contribute to annual business planning and staffing needs.
• Integrate technology and innovative practices to improve performance.
• Support equipment placement, repairs, and maintenance strategies.
• Partner with Business Development for pursuit efforts.
• Coordinate annual superintendent and field leadership meetings.
