How will you make an impact in this role?

As a VP Engineering, Commercial Digital Experience Platforms, you will report directly to Yanli Wolff, VP - Head of Large & Global Commercial Service Technologies. You will be based in New York City with periodic travel to Phoenix, India and other key offices as required throughout the year. Travel is generally less than 15% of the time.

You will own the technology strategy for the @Work product line, lead all the strategic initiatives, oversee the overall GCS Technology strategy supporting the Large & Global Client Digital Experience and further define the B2B API strategy to integrate digital servicing capabilities to the channel of client choices. As a result, you will enable the engineering organization to partner across various Technology, Enterprise Architecture and Product colleagues to redefine the client’s Digital Experience; modernize our platforms and to create cloud native solutions to scale .

A successful candidate will invest time early on to build key relationships at a global and regional level, both within your immediate team and across the wider organization. Learning agility of the current technical status and roadmaps of the software products/platforms under your leadership and the key business outcomes those products need to drive is another critical factor of success. You will focus on building trust with your team, including demonstrating an ability to go deep into the code with engineers and empowering the organization to overcome technical delivery challenges for key business outcomes.

Over the medium term you will continue to focus on excellence in software engineering delivery, ensuring we establish GCS Technology as a gold standard in modern, reliable, scalable and value-additive financial services technology. A successful candidate will actively contribute to how we continue to increase velocity in our software delivery and, most importantly, how we develop our colleague talent base with effective coaching and development.

  • Lead the Corporate Client Digital Experience Platform Engineering teams, partner with product organizations, to deliver best-in-class, scalable & resilient, commercially competitive products & capabilities, establish @Work as the leading corporate card platform in the industry.
  • Build a motivated, talented and high performance team, establish sound organization structure, attract, retain and promote best and diverse talents in engineering. Identify and fill gaps in knowledge by uplifting existing resource capabilities
  • Cultivate and drive innovation and experimentation across GCS and Technology, ensure continuous improvement in engineering practices, leading changes that drive efficiency, improve software quality, and increased velocity of software delivery; bring best practices to the team
  • Collaborate with Engineering peers, Principal Engineers and Principal Architects to assimilate new technology and deliver methods into scalable solutions, using and contributing to engineering best practices across the company

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Proven experience leading a technology organization to build and support large-scale, business critical, global platforms, demonstrated success in application consolidation and modernization, experience with empowering high performing teams to drive outcomes.
  • Highly successful in building strong, collaborative partnership with product organization, demonstrated sound understanding of business context, consistent track record of transforming business needs into high-quality production software.
  • Highly experienced in the design, engineering, and successful implementation of enterprise-grade software products, well-versed in delivering modern Web, Cloud Native, Internal & External APIs and resilient platforms, hands-on experiences with core technologies such as Java, Angular, Docker, Kafka, GitLab, and Postgres
  • Well-versed with agile development practices with a constant passion to iterate through continuous improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including being comfortable speaking in large public forums and being adept at influencing a wide variety of partners and stakeholders
  • Financial industry knowledge and experiences required. Commercial card/commercial service experience is strong plus
Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions

Salary Range: $210,000.00 to $300,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
