Job summary

Planet is seeking a Vice President of Defense and Intelligence Solutions Engineering to lead the end-to-end software engineering organization responsible for dual-use products such as Global Monitoring Service and Marine Domain Awareness. You will own the technical architecture, scalable delivery, and ITAR/EAR compliance for mission-critical geospatial solutions.

The role is full-time and hybrid, requiring presence in SF or DC three days per week, with global teams and remote collaboration

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture.
• 8+ years of direct experience leading and scaling multi-disciplinary engineering organizations.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and scale multi-disciplinary software engineering teams across software, data/ML, platform, and infrastructure.
• Define the software architecture, data models, and technical standards for high-throughput geospatial analytics and real-time alerting.
• Oversee ITAR/EAR compliance in deployment pipelines and regulatory alignment for dual-use products.
• Partner with Product Management to translate market vision into scalable engineering roadmaps, designs, and sprints.
• Direct the integration of AI/ML models and agentic workflows into Planet's product stack.
• Drive operational excellence, metrics, reliability, and secure cloud architectures across environments.
