Planet in the San Francisco and Washington, DC offices seeks a Vice President of Defense and Intelligence Solutions Engineering to lead the software engineering organization responsible for dual-use products. You will own architecture, development, and delivery across software, AI/ML, analytics, and field engineering.

This executive role requires 15+ years in software and 8+ years leading multi-disciplinary teams, with ITAR/EAR experience, security clearance, and a track record building scalable

Qualifications

• 15+ years in software engineering and systems architecture for high-scale data/geospatial apps.
• 8+ years leading multi-disciplinary engineering organizations.
• Experience managing ITAR/EAR governed programs.
• Track record building end-to-end dual-use/defense software at scale.
• Active high-level government security clearance or eligibility.
• Deep expertise in distributed cloud architectures and ML integration.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/SE/EE/Data Science or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead and scale multi-disciplinary software engineering teams across software, data/ML, platform, and infrastructure.
• Define the software architecture, data models, and standards for high-throughput geospatial analytics and real-time alerting.
• Oversee ITAR/EAR compliance in deployment pipelines and development standards.
• Translate market vision into scalable engineering roadmaps and execution plans.
• Direct integration of ML models and agentic workflows into Planet's dual-use stack.
• Ensure reliability, low-latency processing, and secure cloud deployments across environments.
