Job summary

Planet Labs PBC is seeking a Vice President of Defense and Intelligence Solutions Engineering to lead the software engineering organization responsible for dual-use products such as Global Monitoring Service (GMS) and Marine Domain Awareness (MDA).

You will own architecture, delivery, and ITAR/EAR compliance across cloud-based platforms, directing teams across software, AI/ML, analytics, and forward deployed engineering.

Qualifications

• Requires 15+ years in software engineering and systems architecture.
• 8+ years leading and scaling multi-disciplinary engineering orgs.
• Experience managing teams and data handling under ITAR/EAR regulations.
• Track record in end-to-end dual-use or defense software at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead multi-disciplinary software engineering teams (software, data/ML, platform, infra).
• Define software architecture, data models, and technical standards for high-throughput geospatial analytics.
• Ensure ITAR/EAR compliance in deployment pipelines and development standards.
• Translate market vision and defense requirements into scalable engineering roadmaps and sprints.
• Direct integration of ML models and agentic workflows into the product stack.
• Drive reliability, SLA adherence, and secure cloud deployment across environments.
