Job summary

Cityside in Oakland seeks a Vice President, Development to lead a strategic donor-centered fundraising program, generating millions in philanthropic support locally and nationally. You’ll collaborate with the CEO, founders, editors, and Board to expand funding opportunities and manage a growing team.

Responsibilities include building foundation relations, guiding grant requests, expanding major gifts and corporate giving, and delivering engaging donor communications.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated success with Bay Area major donors to align philanthropy with objectives.
• Strong relationships with California-based foundations and track record of starting programs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for complex philanthropic topics.
• Proven project management, able to handle multiple deadlines.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and networking skills for donor engagement.
• Knowledge of systems and infrastructure to build a modern development org.
• Engaging presence for 1:1 and public settings.

Responsibilities

• Lead a donor-centered fundraising program with clear goals.
• Partner with founders, editors, and Board to identify funding opportunities.
• Expand foundation/grant prospects and oversee grant writers.
• Develop major gifts and corporate portfolio and retain donors.
• Create plans for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
• Build a team to execute fundraising goals.
• Draft donor communications and strategy materials.
• Oversee fundraising campaigns and donor events.
• Manage donor database and data quality.
• Communicate mission through annual reports and newsletters.
