Job summary

Ares Management seeks a Vice President of Data Governance to lead and operationalize governance across the firm. You will design frameworks, policies, and processes that make data trustworthy, discoverable, secure, and AI-ready, directly enabling the Enterprise Data Strategy and the AURA AI platform.

This hands-on role requires partnering with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Cyber, and business stakeholders to implement end-to-end data lifecycle controls, cataloging, data quality, and privacy

Qualifications

• 10+ years in data governance or related roles, with leadership experience in financial services preferred
• Demonstrated experience building data governance programs from scratch, including catalog, classification, quality, and access management
• Hands-on familiarity with modern data platforms — Databricks, Unity Catalog, Azure data services
• Working knowledge of AI/ML governance concepts and regulatory frameworks
• Experience with PII/data privacy compliance programs and regulatory frameworks (GDPR, CCPA/state privacy laws, etc.)
• Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills; able to work with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Cyber and investment teams
• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or relevant certifications (CDMP, DAMA, CIMP) a plus

Responsibilities

• Design and mature the end-to-end data governance framework
• Define data classification scheme and ensure consistent application
• Establish governance councils and stewardship roles
• Align governance roadmap with Enterprise Data Strategy and AURA platform
• Own data catalog strategy and metadata standards
• Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Cyber and business stakeholders
