Job summary

DUAL North America, Inc. is seeking an AVP/VP Underwriter for the Builders Risk division. You will define underwriting strategy, lead broker relationships, and oversee a team of 1-5 underwriters across national construction portfolios.

As a senior leader, you will drive profitable growth, mentor junior team members, and collaborate with product, claims, and actuarial functions to optimize risk assessment and pricing across complex wood-frame projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, psychology, criminal justice, mathematics, finance, business, or a related field preferred.
• 5-12 years of relevant underwriting experience.
• Demonstrates a naturally inquisitive mindset with a strong desire to understand processes, solve problems, and improve outcomes.
• In-depth understanding of technical underwriting principles and risk assessment.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
• Proven ability to manage and build broker and client relationships.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Must be able to travel up to 30% or more as required for client meetings, conferences, or industry events.

Responsibilities

• Manage and grow your portfolio of builders risk projects, aligning with underwriting guidelines.
• Train and foster careers of Associate Underwriters and Underwriters within the team.
• Handle performance evaluations, hiring decisions, and team leadership responsibilities.
• Define team production goals aligned to division objectives and drive execution.
• Review referrals from team members and ensure pricing consistency within guidelines.
• Oversee division-level projects and cross-functional initiatives to broaden expertise.
