Job description

The VP, Finance and Accounting will own all core finance and accounting functions — tax, audit, treasury/banking, financial reporting, and FP&A — while also functioning as a true working manager: hands-on with the close process and journal entries, not purely an overseer.

The ideal candidate can sit across the table from the CEO and speak fluently and confidently about the numbers, while also being comfortable getting into the details of a high-volume, multi-system transactional business. This is a "doer" role as much as a leadership role.

Reporting Structure

This role leads a team of 5:

  • Controller — also serves as the team's expert on the company's core operations system, functioning more like a business analyst
  • 2 Senior Accountants
  • 1 AR/AP Specialist
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations (~40% of time)
  • Own the monthly and period-end close process, with direct, hands-on involvement in journal entries (close activities represent roughly 20% of overall time)
  • Maintain the integrity of the company's books and records in NetSuite
  • Manage banking relationships and day-to-day bank transaction activity
  • Oversee tax and audit functions; address gaps identified in the most recent audit cycle and drive corrective action on basic accounting fundamentals
  • Build and strengthen internal controls across a very high-volume transaction environment (millions of transactions — similar in scale to a FinTech or credit card processing business)
  • Develop deep expertise in the company's proprietary core operations/dispatch system and other key systems to ensure data flows cleanly between systems and integrity is maintained across the platform
FP&A (~30% of time)
  • Build and present clear, basic financial and KPI reporting that supports how the CEO wants to run the business
  • Translate financial data into a clear, digestible narrative for leadership and the ownership group ("tell the story")
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis
Business Partnering, People Management & Projects (~30% of time)
  • Serve as a key finance partner to the CEO and VP-level leaders across Systems, Mobile, and IT
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of 5, including the Controller
  • Lead ad hoc projects as the business scales and matures
Qualifications
  • 12–15 years of progressive accounting/finance experience
  • Public accounting experience strongly preferred; CPA highly preferred
  • Strong technical accounting foundation, with experience owning close, audit, and tax in a standalone or near-standalone capacity
  • Experience in high-transaction-volume industries (FinTech, payments/credit card processing, or similar) strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite preferred
  • Prior experience in a private equity-backed or sponsor-owned company a plus
Key Attributes
  • A genuine "doer" — comfortable in the details of the close and daily accounting, not just reviewing others' work
  • Inquisitive and analytical; willing to dig into systems and transaction-level data until truly expert in how the business works
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills; able to confidently and credibly discuss financial performance and KPIs with a CEO who will challenge and probe
  • Able to flex between high-level financial storytelling and detailed, in-the-weeds accounting work
  • Collaborative — comfortable supporting and partnering with VP-level leaders across Systems, Mobile, and IT
