Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly close process and manage annual budget and forecasts for multiple entities.
  • Drive improvements in financial reporting and outputs to inform management.
  • Ensure robust financial controls and accurate GAAP reporting.
  • Coordinate with outside auditors, private equity investors, banks, and management on monthly reporting.
  • Oversee M&A financial processes including opening balance sheet, working capital, and purchase price accounting.
  • Advise management on accounting applications to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Design and supervise the accounting department structure to meet goals.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Manage and develop accounting/finance staff.

Job description

We are a private equity-backed specialty building products platform focused on the distribution of products to the commercial construction industry. Operating through a network of leading regional distributors, we combine local customer relationships with the financial resources, technology, and operational capabilities of a national organization. With a strategy centered on organic growth, strategic acquisitions, and operational excellence, we are seeking an experienced and hands-on VP of Accounting to join our leadership team.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The VP of Accounting is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, including the production of periodic financial statements, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of internal controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure role that reported results comply with GAAP. This position will provide financial oversight and support to CFO on all accounting matters.

  • Lead, organize and facilitate the monthly close process as well as manage and compile the annual budget and periodic forecasts across multiple entities.
  • Champion improvements in the financial reporting process and the informational outputs of those processes such that operating management is well informed and have the financial information they need to identify opportunities, risks, and problems.
  • Assure that all individuals, teams, and the organization at large have the financial information and tools they need to manage against plans and assure effective financial controls.
  • Interface with and communicate to outside auditors, private equity investors, banks, company and corporate management and other stakeholders in relation to monthly reporting and accounting issues.
  • Manage the mergers and acquisition financial process related to opening balance sheet, net working capital, and purchase price accounting.
  • Advise company management on all questions and problems relating to financial and accounting applications to assure accuracy and consistency.
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organization structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Management and development of subordinates.
Qualifications & Experience:

The ideal candidate will be a hard-working, take-charge person with excellent judgment. The successful candidate will have a track record of optimizing team performance and is committed to driving the company’s overall financial results. More specifically, the candidate will require the following qualifications and experience:

  • 7-10 years’ experience of demonstrated finance leadership.
  • Experience working in a private equity-backed industrial services business or a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting and reporting, cash management, financial statement analysis, forecasting and transactional pricing.
  • Prior experience synthesizing, analyzing, and presenting data, and history of analyzing actual results against plan and determining and explaining variances.
  • Demonstrated success designing and improving a Finance organization’s practices, processes, procedures, and organizational structure.
  • Outstanding analytical skills, a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and the ability to engage with senior leaders in addressing complex business issues and making recommendations from analysis.
  • Demonstrated success building high-performance teams and developing people
  • Working knowledge and experience with an enterprise-wide ERP system
  • Outstanding communication and talent leadership skills, as well as a strong business acumen.
  • Education. Undergraduate degree is required, with a preference for a BS / BA in accounting, finance, or a related field. A CPA is plus, but not required.

They will be a hands-on leader capable of mentoring the accounting and finance team to enhance existing processes and internal controls within the organization. More specifically, the candidate will have the following competencies:

Must have the ability to quickly assimilate into the culture of the company and work effectively as a business partner with the entire senior management team, especially the CFO and President. Must be collaborative and hands-on; encourages cross-functional cooperation and builds strong working relationships between the finance and operating teams. Must be forward thinking and open and receptive to new ideas. S/he is someone who thrives in an environment of continuous improvement.

Driving Results. A broad and well-rounded business executive with strong financial leadership experience, equally capable on both strategic and operational levels. Track record of executing on business strategy as both a finance business partner and operating executive. The candidate must excel in driving business performance based on key performance indicators (KPIs) that are clearly aligned with the strategy and objectives of the company. The candidate must be a decisive leader and can prioritize effectively and focus on the most relevant issues.

Strong Business Acumen. The candidate must understand the levers on both the operational (strong detail orientation) and customer / commercial side of the business. S/he must have a track record of having built outstanding and effective relationships with business leaders across the enterprise with strong credibility both internally and externally.

Excellent Communication Skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills; the ideal candidate will possess the ability to present his/her ideas in a clear, concise, and compelling fashion to the CFO, with exceptional command of facts and emotional IQ.
