SUMMARY:
Responsible for all functions related to planning and administering the volunteer program.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, masters preferred; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in public speaking preferred.
- Experience managing a volunteer program in a large geographic territory preferred.
- Employee must sign a Business Protection Agreement.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
AREA: Quality/Monitoring
- Keeps patient/family centered services and caring at the forefront; customer needs are exceeded.
- Assures plans are implemented to improve sub-optimal quality or patient satisfaction scores.
- Assures volunteer services team compliance with regulatory requirements, compliance plans preserve core values of hospice while meeting external requirements.
- Assures volunteer services team compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for supervision and training of volunteers.
- Leads and engages in QI projects, collaborates with the Quality/ Planning Department.
AREA: Leadership
- Promotes, articulates and models the vision, mission and values of the organization.
- Manages and facilitates the articulation of organizational messages to diverse internal and external constituencies.
- Inspires others, able to lift staff and volunteers from tasks of work to broader focus.

- Monitors internal and external trends, actively participates in agency planning efforts.
- Leads volunteer services team planning for annual objectives contributing to the strategic plan.
- Performs short term planning for the deployment of human and other resources to accomplish the work of the organization.
- Aligns the work of the volunteer services team with the strategic direction of the organization.
- Participates in organizational project(s) and plans.
- Plans for projects and changes utilizing an effective project planning process.
AREA: Organizing
- Continuously builds systems that enhance direct patient care time by volunteers while decreasing hierarchy.
- Assures the delivery of care by volunteers is accomplished according to policies and procedures.
- Develops a cohesive volunteer services team through mentoring and team support. Also creates teamwork across departments.
- Develops plans for cross-coverage of teams by volunteers throughout the regional office to increase services to patients and families.
- Evaluates processes and reengineers for maximum efficiency and to support excellence in volunteer services.
- Facilitates collaborative volunteer services processes.
AREA: Staffing
- Develops and implements annual comprehensive volunteer recruitment plan to ensure competent volunteers to provide high quality services.
- Develops a succession plan to assure competent staff and volunteers exist to fill future needs.
- Leads volunteer coordinators in effort to mentor and coach staff in effective utilization of volunteers.
- Strives to ensure staff and volunteer retention and low turnover.
- Assures volunteer services staff compliance with policies and procedures.
- Creates a learning environment, teaching, coaching and assuring competency of volunteers services staff.
AREA: Budgeting
- Participates in the development of the annual operating and capital budgets for volunteer services.
- Takes ownership of budget. Assures adherence to the budget.
- Assures fiscal responsibility for staffing and costs of services.
- Participates in creation of other financial resources.
- Creatively decreases costs without sacrificing service, quality or compliance to regulations.
AREA: Technical Competence
- Possesses a comprehensive body of knowledge regarding hospice, palliative care, human services, and volunteer/charitable not-for profit organizations.
- Possesses a comprehensive body of knowledge regarding supervision and management.
- Promotes and sustains a consistent focus on creative use of volunteers to assure best use of charitable funds.
