Job summary

The Salvation Army Southwest Division is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to develop, implement, and supervise a comprehensive volunteer program across the Southwest Division, including Arizona, Southern Nevada and New Mexico. This on-site, full-time role focuses on recruiting, screening, training, and deploying volunteers, while maintaining systems, reporting, and partnerships to maximize impact.

Qualifications

  • Four years of relatable experience may substitute for a degree
  • Some leadership experience is strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook required
  • Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software with basic training
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and ability to work with diverse backgrounds
  • Able to maintain non-judgmental attitude and professional boundaries with volunteers
  • Must be congenial and able to work under challenging circumstances
  • Ability to learn and teach PTM policies and protocols
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Driver’s license with clean record and ability to pass Safety module
  • Knowledge of Golden Volunteer Software is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Develop a process to recruit, screen, train, assign, track, and evaluate volunteers in collaboration with the local department and Corps leadership
  • Assist Corps and programs in determining their volunteer needs and train units on volunteer utilization
  • Access systems for working with volunteers to centralize screening, interviewing, training, assigning, tracking, and evaluating volunteers
  • Manage and maintain the Volunteer Management Software (VMS)
  • Screen and manage Volunteer Background Check System division-wide
  • Create material for recruitment and general community outreach
  • Establish working relations with other organizations to involve them through volunteerism
  • Recruit through social media, local connections, and national agencies
  • Recruit, screen, train, and keep records for audits
  • Work with supervisors to determine volunteer positions and projects
  • Create job/task descriptions to recruit and deploy volunteers
  • Orient volunteers to The Salvation Army
  • Develop training and orientation opportunities for volunteers
  • Provide quarterly reports reflecting statistics on volunteers and hours
  • Develop systems to evaluate volunteers and their experiences
  • Develop a recognition system for service milestones
  • Support events like Thanksgiving and Christmas programs
  • Discuss problems with the DCRD and participate in meetings
  • Represent The Salvation Army at public meetings and with partners
  • Drive to TSA events as required
  • Other duties related to Divisional Volunteer Coordinator
