Job summary

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook required.
  • Ability to work with diverse backgrounds and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Driver's license with clean record and ability to pass fleet safety module.
  • Knowledge of Golden Volunteer Software a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a process to recruit, screen, train, assign, track, and evaluate volunteers in collaboration with the local department and Corps leadership.
  • Assist Corps and programs in determining their volunteer needs and train units on volunteer utilization.
  • Manage and maintain the Volunteer Management Software (VMS).
  • Screen and manage Salvation Army Volunteer Background Check System division wide.
  • Create material to be used for recruitment and general community outreach.
  • Establish working relations with other organizations and Salvation Army partners to assess opportunities for volunteerism.
  • Recruit through social media, local connections, and national agencies.
  • Prepare files for audits and maintain volunteer records.
  • Coordinate with Corps and Programs to identify long- and short-term volunteer positions.

STATUS:Full Time/Non-Exempt/40hrs/wk

SCOPE OF POSITION

The Volunteer Coordinator will develop, implement, and supervise an active volunteer program within the Southwest Division, which covers Southern Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training. Must be courteous and respectful toward co-workers, volunteers, donors, et. al.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, with the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds & circumstances
  • Able to maintain a non-judgmental attitude, professional approach, and boundaries with volunteers
  • Must be congenial and able to work well with individuals under challenging circumstances.
  • Ability to take, learn, & teach PTM policies and protocols.
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Secure & maintain a driver's license with a clean driving record and be able to pass The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety eLearning module.
  • Knowledge of Golden Volunteer Software a plus
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop a process to recruit, screen, train, assign, track, and evaluate volunteers in collaboration with the local department and Corps leadership
  • Assist Corps and programs in determining their volunteer needs and train units on volunteer utilization.
  • Access systems (database and documentation) are provided for working with volunteers. Information systems are used to create a more centralized system for accomplishing tasks such as screening, interviewing, training, assigning, tracking, and evaluating volunteers.
  • Manage and maintain the Volunteer Management Software (VMS).
  • Screen and manage Salvation Army Volunteer Background Check System division wide.
  • Create material to be used for recruitment and general community outreach.
  • Establish working relations with other organizations and Salvation Army partners to assess opportunities where they can get involved through volunteerism.
  • Recruit through social media, local connections, and national agencies.
  • Recruit, screen, train, and keep records for files to be prepared for audits.
  • Work with supervisors and program delivery specialists of Salvation Army programs to determine possible volunteer positions and projects, both long-and short-term, e.g., Summer Camp, Day Camp, Corps, Family Services, Public Relations and Fund Raising, Transportation, Senior Services, and Emergency Disaster Services.
  • Work with Corps and Programs to create appropriate job or task descriptions to recruit and deploy volunteers in the SW Division.
  • Assist Corps and Programs with orienting volunteers to The Salvation Army.
  • Develop opportunities for appropriate training and orientation of volunteers before assigning them to a particular task.
  • Provide quarterly reports reflecting pertinent statistical information such as the number of new volunteers, current volunteers, volunteer hours worked, expenditures accounted for, and other reporting as may be required.
  • Develop systems to evaluate volunteers.
  • Develop systems for volunteers to evaluate their experience to ensure it is positive.
  • Develop a recognition system to acknowledge volunteers' service milestones.
  • Support the efforts to organize volunteers for special division events, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas meal programs.
  • Support the efforts connected with the Salvation Army's Christmas programs. This includes, but is not limited to, Angel Tree distribution, food drives, bell ringing, and other programs that may need seasonal help.
  • Discuss any problems associated with volunteers with the DCRD.
  • Attend and participate in staff and committee meetings as requested.
  • Represent The Salvation Army at appropriate public meetings with organizations, corporate representatives, and other community members as requested.
  • Drive to TSA events and locations as required to carry out job duties.
  • Other duties as assigned related to the position of Divisional Volunteer Coordinator.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
