We Connect The Dots, Inc. (WCTD) is dedicated to inspiring and educating students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) careers. We strive to serve students from underrepresented and underserved communities, with a focus on young adults aged 13-18 and adults over 18. Our mission is to ignite passion and knowledge in modern-day skills such as coding, cybersecurity, business automation, and more, emphasizing the pillars of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM). Through collaborations with the community, education professionals, government, and the technology industry, we provide awareness and education of 21st Century workforce skills, empowering students to pursue STEAM careers locally, nationally, and globally.

Role Description

This is a remote role for a Volunteer Board of Director focused on Market Communications. The individual will be responsible for overseeing market communications, advising on digital marketing and social media strategies, and engaging the media in promoting the WCTD brand. They will also contribute to the overall growth and success of the organization through effective communication initiatives.

Skills

  • Strategic Communication: Ability to craft strategic communication plans that align with WCTD’s mission and goals.
  • Public Relations Expertise: Proven experience in media relations. Ability to engage with news outlets to obtain speaking opportunities which highlight WCTD nationally.
  • Digital Marketing Proficiency: Knowledge of SEO, SEM, and social media marketing strategies. Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact). Familiarity with analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Content Creation and Storytelling: Strong writing, editing, and content development skills, including visual storytelling through digital mediums.
  • Brand Management: Expertise in developing and maintaining a cohesive brand voice and identity.
  • Audience Engagement: Understanding of community-building strategies on social media platforms. Knowledge of techniques to drive audience growth and maintain engagement.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Ability to analyze marketing metrics and translate insights into actionable strategies.

Experiences

  • Marketing or Communications Background: At least 5–10 years of experience in marketing, public relations, or related fields, ideally with some experience in the nonprofit sector.
  • Campaign Development: Track record of creating successful marketing or PR campaigns.
  • Nonprofit Involvement: Previous experience volunteering or working in a nonprofit setting, with an understanding of nonprofit marketing challenges.
  • Media Relationships: Established network with media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
  • Community Engagement: Proven ability to connect with diverse audiences and communities, particularly those served by the nonprofit.
  • Advocacy and Storytelling: Demonstrated success in using digital platforms to advocate for a cause and amplify organizational impact.

Board members will serve a two-year term, with the possibility of re-appointment for one additional term. Board meetings will be held regularly, and committee meetings will be held in coordination with full board meetings.

Note: This is a voluntary position without financial compensation. Board members are expected to serve in a fiduciary capacity and act in the best interests of the organization.
