Director, Content Accessibility

Location : This is a fully remote role.

Type : This is a full-time position

About the Team

The Content Accessibility team at College Board has the privilege and responsibility of ensuring that College Board assessments are accessible for individuals with disabilities. Our work is both specialized and broad: we work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to write and review image descriptions, consult with pro duct and technology teams to im pro ve accessibility supports in authoring tools, and collaborate with accessibility and accommodations specialists across the organization to ensure test content meets both policy and the test-taker needs. We not only advocate for universal design, we live it.

About the Opportunity

As our Director, Content Accessibility you are a writer, reviewer, pro blem solver, and pro gram liaison who doesn’t settle for ensuring the test-taking experience is fair for individuals with disabilities. Rather, you push to im pro ve that experience. You do this in part by learning the ins and outs of a pro gram, specializing in its unique content requirements and pursuing innovations that benefit both the end user and the pro gram. You train stakeholders to instill in them best practices and you advocate for im pro vements every chance you get, inviting key stakeholders to buy into the team’s vision not just of making our work good, but of making our goodness repeatable.

In this role you will:

Writer and Reviewer (50%)

  • Write accessible test content (e.g., image descriptions), maintaining the highest standards of quality and care, for College Board assessment programs

  • Review and remediate test content to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) prior to test packaging and publishing

  • Review and remediate test-adjacent content (e.g., research studies, scoring guidelines) to meet requirements of WCAG and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prior to publishing

  • Conduct quality-control reviews in support of any test administration

  • Produce error-free deliverables for extern a l vendors, including reader scripts and braille transcription notes

Pro gram Liaison (25%)

  • Partner with the Accessibility Compliance Office to maintain alignment with corporate accessibility policy

  • Coordinate with test-authoring teams to maintain alignment with test-authoring policies

  • Consult with content SMEs, technology teams, and others to ensure content is accessible, fair, and does not violate test constructs

  • Represent the Content Accessibility team in planning and coordination with partner programs

  • Delineate requirements, communicate with, and problem solve for vendors, as needed

Operational Excellence ( 25%)

  • Partner with Senior Director to coordinate team schedules and resources

  • Document processes and write and maintain image description guidelines, universal design policies, and other documentation

  • Conduct trainings and provide general support to content SMEs and teams across College Board in support of improved accessibility for users of accessible technology and all individuals with disabilities who use College Board products and services

  • Research tools, strategies, and innovations (technological and otherwise) that help improve access to test content, and advocate for their implementation

  • Be a subject-matter expert on universal design and accessible test delivery and design

About You

You have:

  • Excellent written communication skills, with demonstrated experience writing or editing (e.g., technical writer, technical editor)

  • Demonstrated experience working in an accessibility-related position (e.g., accessibility specialist, inclusive designer, section 508 compliance analyst)

  • Strong knowledge of web-content accessibility (WCAG, ARIA) and/or universal design

  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including facilitating meetings and presenting remotely and in-person to groups of 5 or more

  • Strong organization and prioritization skills, and the pro ven ability to move forward multiple pro ject s in concert, both independently and as a member of the team

  • Adept pro blem-solving skills, including using data to inform decisions and actions

  • Pro ven ability to build relationships and influence others to action

  • Knowledge of and curiosity about emerging trends and best practices in Web standards, WCAG accessibility, and universal design

  • Certified Pro fessional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) certification preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • The ability to travel 1-3 times a year to College Board offices or on behalf of College Board business

  • Authorization to work in the United States for any employer

The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $ 80,000 to $ 135,000 . College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.

Your salary will be carefully determined based on your location, relevant experience, the external labor market, and the pay of College Board employees in similar roles. College Board strives to pro vide our best offer up front based on this criteria .
