The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles is seeking a part-time Visitor Services Associate to staff on-site sales, membership programs, and retail activities, delivering a welcoming visitor experience.

Positions move between the Winkler Welcome Center, Academy Museum Store, and Oscars Experience gallery. You will handle cash, assist with tickets, and support events while upholding the museum's values and guest-first service.

Responsibilities

• Warmly welcome visitors and initiate engagement with information on exhibitions, events, and offerings.

• Sell merchandise in the Academy Museum Store and staff the Oscars Experience gallery.
• Promote museum memberships across sales locations and manage group sales inquiries.
• Support events, screenings, activations, and special programs.
• Provide calm, empathetic customer service and address concerns while upholding museum values.

Compensation: $20.00 per hour

Summary/Objective

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Visitor Services Associates focus on on-site sales of the Museum’s programming, membership, group sales, and retail offerings while also creating a welcoming environment for the Museum’s audiences. Proactively and energetically engaging with our visitors, Associates will be trained (paid) on customer service and sales skills as well as security regulations. Visitor Services Associates will move between the Winkler Welcome Center, the Academy Museum Store, and the Oscars Experience gallery and other posts throughout the day on a flexible, as needed basis.

Essential Functions Of The Job

• Work well with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
• Champion the museum’s mission.
• Warmly welcome visitors to the museum with a friendly demeanor and initiate engagement to launch their experience with information on all Museum offerings, including exhibitions, events, daily activities, film screenings, group sales, retail products, and Fanny’s Restaurant and Café.
• At the Winkler Welcome Center, handle cash transactions and assist visitors with tickets to the museum, screenings, and special events.
• In the Academy Museum Store, sell Museum merchandise and related products.
• At the Oscars Experience gallery, sell tickets and staff the gallery.
• At all sales locations, focus on sales of Museum memberships.
• Handle group sales inquiries, support group check-in, and ensure groups are prepared for their visit.
• Act as a communications representative for the museum, assisting via phone and email and providing excellent customer support to our visitors.
• Support events hosted by the museum, including screenings, activations, and special programs.
• Demonstrate skill in addressing customer complaints and concerns with patience and empathy.
• Demonstrate a commitment to upholding the museum’s values and mission.
• Attend department meetings/huddles, read departmental memos and remain aware of all policy updates.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Competencies

• A high school diploma or equivalent certificate of completion.
• 1+ years sales or hospitality experience (e.g., customer service, retail, other front-facing roles).

Physical Demands

• The person in this position needs to frequently move about all posted positions.
• This person in this position needs to be able to be stationary 50% of the time.
• Must be able to position self to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• Ability to be stationary for multiple hours and remain alert at all times.
• Ability to move and transport at least 25 Ibs.
