Job summary

Mexic-Arte Museum in downtown Austin is seeking a part-time, hourly Retail Associate. You will greet visitors, answer questions about exhibits and programs, and promote memberships and merchandise. The role requires weekend availability and a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities include operating the POS, handling transactions, and assisting in events. Experience in retail and basic Excel/Sheets use is preferred. Immediate start is ideal.

Qualifications

• Must have at least an associate degree or be currently enrolled in college.
• Retail experience required.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred but not required.
• Flexible schedule and weekend availability required.
• Experience using Excel or Google Sheets preferred but not required.

• Keep the store and storage areas clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
• Restock the sales floor as needed and report low-stock items.
• Assist in museum events when necessary.

Job description

Position Type: Part-Time hourly position at the Mexic-Arte Museum in downtown Austin. We are looking for someone with availability on weekends and willing to commit to every Saturday and/or Sunday.

We are looking to hire someone who can start immediately, ideally before December.

Hiring Rate: $20.00 per hour

• Welcome and greet visitors to the museum and store.

• Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system, process cash and credit card transactions, and manage the cash drawer.
• Participate in store opening and closing procedures, including preparing daily sales reports.
• Maintain a visually appealing sales floor by organizing product shelves, arranging displays, and ensuring all areas meet the store's merchandising standards.
• Keep the store and storage areas clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
• Restock the sales floor as needed and report low-stock items.
• Assist in museum events when necessary.

• Retail experience required (front desk experience may be considered in place of retail experience).
• Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred but not required.
• Experience using Excel or Google Sheets is preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of Latinx art is preferred but not required.
• Must have a flexible schedule.
• Must be available on weekends. Additional weekday and special event shifts may be available throughout the month.
