Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Software Engineer for the Virtual Test Platforms team to define, deploy, and support virtualization tools that accelerate vehicle development. You will contribute to building and operating production-like virtual environments spanning embedded systems, with a focus on reliability and diagnosability.

This role requires collaboration across GM’s engineering teams, strong coding skills, and a passion for advancing virtual test techniques.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in C, C++, or Rust.
• Experience automating testing of embedded or mobile products at scale.
• Ability to deliver as part of a team in ambiguous environments.

Responsibilities

• Configure and customize virtual test environments (KVM, QEMU, Android) and expose them via cloud services.
• Integrate virtual test environments into developer loops and CI/CD processes.
• Author virtual devices to extend test coverage, including VirtIO drivers.
• Develop custom test tools to increase throughput and quality.
• Improve test result collection, parsing and dashboards.
• Write production-quality code and reusable guidance for GM engineers.
• Share knowledge and grow as a subject-matter expert in virtualized testing.
