Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to shape and scale embedded software platforms for software-defined vehicles. This hands-on technical leader will drive architecture across teams, connect software, tooling, and release activities, and modernize a large-scale test system with automated, headless frameworks for rapid testing.

The role requires deep expertise in real-time embedded systems, CI/CD, and diagnostics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/EE/SE or related field.
• 15+ years of experience validating software systems and leading architecture across orgs.
• Deep understanding of software architecture for real time systems.
• Experience shipping high quality safety critical products.
• Experience architecting large-scale CI/CD and embedded test automation pipelines.
• Expertise in variation management, change-impact analysis and risk-based regression testing.
• Experience with test-result data modeling, analytics and API development.
• Proficiency with Linux, Git, Python, Bash, Robot Framework, containers, and infrastructure as code.

Responsibilities

• Lead major capability across multiple teams and influence technical direction.
• Define architecture and roadmap for standardized test execution and data tooling.
• Develop APIs and integrations between test execution, management, and diagnostics.
• Improve test robustness, speed, and deployment efficiency across CI/CD and test environments.
• Mentor and coach engineers, connect software, tooling, and release activities into a coherent system.
