Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Kansas City VA Medical Center, seeks a Medical Records Technologist (Coder) to code inpatient and outpatient encounters using ICD, CPT, HCPCS, and related coding systems.

This virtual position supports the HIM team with encoder products and health information software. You will adhere to coding guidelines, ensure accurate documentation, and work with Outlook, Excel, Word in daily tasks, with a schedule of Mon–Fri 7am–3:30pm CST in the facility’s HIM

Qualifications

• One year of creditable experience in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding.
• AHIMA or AAPC coding program completion accepted for qualification.
• Education or combination acceptable per VA qualifications standards.

Responsibilities

• Assign codes to inpatient and outpatient encounters using ICD, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Select appropriate codes per guidelines ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Use health information systems and encoder products to support coding workflows.
