Job summary

The Virtual Preparatory Academy of Florida, part of ACCEL Schools, seeks an Academic Mentor to provide high-dosage tutoring to elementary students in a virtual setting with occasional in-person state testing support.

You will use provided materials to reinforce literacy and math, work in small groups, track attendance and progress, and communicate with teachers and leadership to support student success.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required; additional education preferred.
• Teaching degree or certification is not required.
• Experience with elementary-aged children is preferred.
• Experience in tutoring, mentoring, childcare, education, or a similar setting is preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, dependable, and committed to student success.
• Comfortable using technology and virtual learning platforms.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent, high-dosage tutoring to elementary students in small groups.
• Deliver targeted support in foundational literacy and mathematics based on student needs and data.
• Use provided instructional materials and strategies to reinforce classroom learning.
• Build positive, supportive relationships that promote student engagement and confidence.
• Monitor and document student attendance, participation, and academic progress.
• Communicate student progress and concerns with teachers and school leadership.
• Participate in training and follow school procedures for student safety, confidentiality, and professionalism.
