Job summary

The Academic Mentor role at ACCEL Schools’ Virtual Preparatory Academy of Florida provides high-dosage, targeted tutoring to middle school students in a virtual, online setting, with small groups and data-driven literacy, math, science and Civics support.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; teaching degree not required.
• Experience tutoring or mentoring middle school students preferred.
• Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, dependable and committed to student success.
• Comfortable using technology and virtual learning platforms.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent, high-dosage tutoring to middle school students in small groups.
• Deliver targeted support in literacy, mathematics, science, and Civics based on student needs and data.
• Use provided instructional materials and strategies to reinforce classroom learning and address identified skill gaps.
• Build positive, supportive relationships that promote student engagement, confidence, and academic ownership.
• Monitor and document student attendance, participation, and academic progress.
• Communicate student progress and concerns with teachers and school leadership.
• Participate in training and follow school procedures for student safety, confidentiality, and professionalism.
