Our client, Automotive Software & Systems Engineering is seeking a Virtual ECU Engineer to join their team. As a Virtual ECU Engineer, you will be part of the Software Organization (SWx) supporting global SW-driven engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have a proactive test-first/test-right-now mindset, strong expertise in virtual test platforms (MIL/SIL/HIL), and the ability to collaborate effectively in agile teams to drive verification and validation from early design through validation.
Job Title:Virtual ECU Engineer
Location:Auburn Hills, MI (Onsite)
What's the Job?
- Develop virtual test platforms (xIL) for next-generation vehicle controller testing, including soft and virtual ECU generation across multiple virtual ECU levels.
- Build and evolve toolchains and methodologies for integration, open-loop and closed-loop testing, and deployment across domains such as ADAS/AD, Energy, E-powertrain, Body, Cockpit, and Connected services.
- Work side by side with SW development and test engineers within agile teams from the early design phase through validation, challenging design and logical architecture with a test-first/test-right-now mentality.
- Advance virtualization technologies and improve troubleshooting/root-cause analysis, automation, and methodology by applying CI/CD mindset across abstraction levels from continuous design verification to continuous testing and deployment in highly virtualized environments.
- Support interdisciplinary agile feature development and validation for advanced capabilities including ADAS and EV systems.
What's Needed?
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related Engineering degree from an accredited university.
- 2 years of experience developing virtual test platforms (MIL, SIL, HIL) in automotive applications.
- Experience with virtualization, cosimulation, and system integration toolchains (e.g., dSPACE, ETAS, VVirtualTarget, QTronic Silver, Model.CONNECT, VDK, Siemens, etc.).
- Knowledge of CI/CD tools and methods, plus experience with model-based development tools such as MATLAB/SIMULINK.
- Thorough understanding of embedded software development (C, C++), AUTOSAR software architecture, auto code generation process and tools, and experience with software such as Visual Basic, Python, VBnet.
What's in it for me?
- Opportunity to help build virtual ECU testing capabilities from the ground up within a modern, agile, SW-driven engineering organization.
- Chance to set new benchmarks in virtualization, automation, and CI/CD-driven verification and deployment practices.
- Work in an environment that starts testing from day one-validating requirements while also improving design quality early.
- Collaborate with SW development and test engineers across multiple automotive domains, including ADAS and EV systems.
- Contribute to a transformation in how vehicle controller testing is performed, with a strong focus on customer experience.
