Job description

Our client, Automotive & Embedded Systems is seeking a Automotive HIL Test Engineer to join their team. As a Automotive HIL Test Engineer, you will be part of the Engineering organization supporting HIL Development and Validation. The ideal candidate will have strong technical depth in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) development, hands-on experience with automotive toolchains and real-time systems, and the ability to standardize and improve virtual validation workflows.

Job Title:Automotive HIL Test Engineer

Location:Auburn Hills, MI (Onsite)

Pay Range: $26/hr- $30/hr on W2

What's the Job?

  • Design and develop ADAS/AD, Chassis, Infotainment, Connectivity and STLA-Cockpit HIL Test Benches to enable Component, Subsystem, and Vehicle Integration validation of Features and Functions (on- and offboard) without using prototype vehicles.
  • Build and maintain common HIL design and specification, including standardizing the integration solution for HWIO and enhancing virtual validation methods.
  • Integrate and validate ECUs using HIL benches across multiple vendors and toolchains, including dSPACE (ControlDesk, ConfigurationDesk, AutomationDesk) and Vector (CANoe, CANalyzer, vTESTstudio, VT System).
  • Develop and support real-time systems, I/O configuration, and bus simulation, including Ethernet/SOME-IP, Android/Linux, OTA, and cloud interfaces for Infotainment & Connectivity.
  • Provide technical solutions to enable remote control of HIL Test Benches from anywhere in the world with functional restrictions removed (including blueprint concepts for SEE, TOUCH, HEAR, and SPEAK for other domains such as Body, PRS, and Vehicle HIL).

What's Needed?

  • Proven experience as a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Development Engineer, including ECU integration, validation, and test bench development.
  • Hands-on expertise with automotive communication protocols and diagnostics, including CAN, CAN FD, LIN, Ethernet (SOME/IP, DoIP), and UDS.
  • Knowledge of ECU architecture and software ecosystems, including AUTOSAR Classic & Adaptive, and scripting/programming with tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Python, C#, C++, and CAPL.
  • Experience with vehicle dynamics and simulation software such as IPG CarMaker, dSPACE ASM, or aiMotive, plus sensor simulation and perception-related understanding for ADAS validation.
  • Familiarity with compliance and standards such as ISO 26262 (Functional Safety), SOTIF (ADAS validation), and cybersecurity awareness aligned to ISO 21434, along with CI/CD integration using Jenkins/GitLab.

What's in it for me?

  • Work on high-impact HIL test benches that accelerate integration and validation without relying on prototype vehicles.
  • Collaborate on standardized HIL design and integration approaches across multiple vendors and toolchains.
  • Contribute to improved virtual validation methods and remote accessibility for HIL test execution.
  • Build expertise across ADAS/AD, Chassis, Infotainment, Connectivity, and STLA-Cockpit validation domains.
  • Join a team focused on technical excellence in real-time systems, bus simulation, and automotive ECU validation.
