Job summary

State of South Carolina's Department of Public Health seeks a laboratory professional to identify pathogens in wastewater, including rabies DFA, serology, and molecular assays. The role operates under limited supervision within the Virology, Rabies, & Wastewater Unit.

You will perform dPCR for wastewater surveillance, ensure quality control per CLIA'88 standards, and provide technical consultation to clinicians and public health staff. On-call rotations for outbreaks are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and relevant program experience required
• Read and understand instrument manuals and procedure manuals; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex laboratory procedures for identification of pathogens in wastewater.
• Performs rabies DFA, serological and molecular assays for various viral pathogens.
• Performs dPCR for wastewater surveillance; monitors quality control trends.
• Provides technical consultation to clinicians, laboratorians, and public health staff.
• On-call weekend and holiday rotation for Rabies and viral pathogens per outbreak investigations.
